Understanding the basics of stability chamber

Pharmaceutical, food technology, biomedical storage, life science, and other industries employ stability chambers in research and development. Stability chambers can even be used to detect a flaw in a prototype product before it is put into full-scale manufacturing.

Chambers exist in a variety of sizes, and some are simple while others can execute a wide range of tasks. Any company considering purchasing a stability chamber should think about their needs as well as the quantity of space available in their facility for such equipment.

Humidity capsules are used to adjust the humidity levels within a chamber. Prior to testing, these capsules are perforated and placed in the chamber. The test substance is subsequently placed in the test compartment, which is then sealed with a specific sensor cover. This cap captures and sends critical information that aids in the research of test materials.

Stability Testing Chambers

Chemical, biological, and microbiological studies can be conducted and monitored in a Stability Testing Chamber. Products can be evaluated in the chamber to see how elements like humidity, light, and temperature affect them while they're being stored. Companies can determine the length of time a product can be stored under specific conditions and the shelf-life of the drug by testing the factors that cause changes in the quality of the drug. Pharmaceutical companies can also assess how environmental changes affect the quality of a product by closely monitoring it in testing chambers.

Stability Applications Include:

  • accelerated aging
  • shelf life testing
  • stability testing
  • expiration date testing

How do I choose a laboratory stability chamber?

Because there are so many different types and sizes of test chambers/stability chamber to choose from, it's critical to do your homework before you buy. Take the time to list the features that are required for your test procedure or storage requirements:

  • Chambers can reach far over 200 °C for high-temperature applications, depending on the material used in their construction.
  • CO2, which can drop a chamber's temperature to –73 °C relatively rapidly, and LN2, which can drop it to –185 °C, are two refrigeration possibilities. A single-stage compressor or a two-stage cascade compressor can be used for mechanical refrigeration.
  • Keep in mind the unit's pull-down and ramp-up times, as they are influenced by a number of factors, including the unit's size, temperature range, and heating or refrigeration system's power.
  • Although the most typical relative humidity range is 20–98% RH, dry air purge devices can reduce this even more.
  • Microprocessor-based controllers, autotune, LED, LCD, or touch LCD temperature and RH displays, and solid-state RH sensors are all features to look for.
  • There are benchtop, reach-in, and walk-in variants to choose from. Leaks are less likely with seam welding of the interior chamber walls and a correctly fitting door gasket.
